Enterprise OCR for Scanned Invoices Coming Q1 2026

We're excited to announce Enhanced OCR, our enterprise-grade optical character recognition system launching in Q1 2026. This powerful feature will transform how you process scanned invoices, PDFs, and images, extracting data with unprecedented accuracy even from poor-quality documents.

The Challenge with Document Processing

Many businesses still receive invoices as scanned images or PDFs. These documents often have quality issues—skewed scans, low resolution, coffee stains, handwritten notes, or faded text. Manual data entry from these documents is time-consuming and error-prone.

Standard OCR solutions struggle with real-world document quality issues. They require clean, high-resolution scans and often fail on documents with slight imperfections. This means finance teams either manually type data or spend time rescanning documents for better quality.

How Enhanced OCR Solves This

Enhanced OCR uses Google Vision API's advanced machine learning models to extract text from even challenging documents. The system automatically preprocesses images to improve quality—deskewing crooked scans, denoising grainy images, and enhancing contrast on faded documents.

The OCR engine doesn't just extract text; it understands document structure. It identifies invoice numbers, dates, amounts, vendor information, line items, and totals with context awareness. This structured extraction means data flows directly into MatchRecon's reconciliation engine without manual review.

Key Capabilities

Enhanced OCR will achieve 98%+ accuracy on standard invoices and 95%+ accuracy on challenging documents. It supports multiple languages and can process documents in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and 50+ additional languages.

The system handles various invoice formats automatically, learning from corrections to improve accuracy over time. Whether you're processing standardized purchase orders or handwritten contractor invoices, Enhanced OCR adapts to your document types.

Intelligent Data Extraction

Beyond simple text recognition, Enhanced OCR understands financial documents. It automatically identifies key fields like invoice numbers, dates, due dates, amounts, tax calculations, and payment terms. Line-level detail extraction captures item descriptions, quantities, unit prices, and line totals.

The system uses confidence scoring to flag uncertain extractions for human review. Fields extracted with high confidence (95%+) flow through automatically, while lower-confidence fields are queued for quick verification. This balanced approach maximizes automation while maintaining accuracy.

Image Enhancement Features

Enhanced OCR includes powerful preprocessing capabilities that clean up documents before extraction. Automatic deskewing corrects rotated or angled scans up to 45 degrees. Noise reduction removes speckling and artifacts from low-quality copies. Contrast enhancement makes faded or light text readable.

Border detection and cropping automatically remove irrelevant margins and background, focusing extraction on the actual document. These enhancements happen automatically in milliseconds, requiring no user intervention.

Workflow Integration

Enhanced OCR integrates seamlessly with existing MatchRecon workflows. Upload documents via web interface, email (using our Email Invoice Import feature), or API integration. The system processes documents asynchronously, typically completing extraction within 5-10 seconds.

Extracted data automatically populates invoice fields in MatchRecon, ready for matching against purchase orders. If you have QuickBooks or Xero integration enabled, matched invoices can flow all the way to your accounting system without any manual data entry.

Pricing and Availability

Enhanced OCR will be available as an add-on feature for all MatchRecon plans. Pricing is based on usage: $0.05 per page for the first 1,000 pages per month, with volume discounts for higher usage. Professional and Business plan subscribers receive 500 free pages per month included.

The feature will launch in beta in February 2026, with general availability in March 2026. Beta participants will receive 50% off OCR pricing for the first three months.

Security and Privacy

All documents are transmitted securely over encrypted connections. Processed documents are stored encrypted at rest, with access controls ensuring only authorized users can view them. Documents are retained based on your configured retention policy and can be deleted at any time.

We never use your documents to train third-party models. While we leverage Google Vision API for OCR processing, we maintain strict data handling agreements ensuring your sensitive financial documents remain confidential.

Get Ready for Enhanced OCR

To prepare for Enhanced OCR, start organizing your backlog of scanned invoices. The launch will be a great opportunity to catch up on documents that have been sitting in paper form. Ensure you have proper folder organization and naming conventions for easy retrieval.

We'll be publishing detailed guides on best practices for scanning documents, tips for maximizing OCR accuracy, and workflow recommendations as we approach launch. Join our beta program to get early access and help shape the final feature set.
